Ghandi has been offered a one year deal to stay at Glanford Park, but Macclesfield manager David Moss is hoping to take him to the Moss Rose.

He said: "I think he has turned down their offer of a contract so I'm hoping to meet him next week so we are in the market for a calibre of player who has proven quality at this level.

"He is proven and has been in promotion runs before, he's the kind of player that I'm looking for."

Nottingham-born Carruthers joined United from Southend for £20K in March 2001 to replace Gillingham-bound Guy Ipoua, and has netted 39 times for the club after making his debut in the 2-1 defeat at Darlington.

Macclesfield are also chasing Shrewsbury winger Sam Aiston, but face stiff competition from Darlington and Boston for his signature.
