Managers reaction to Preston defeat

"We were very fortunate tonight I have to admit," said Brown after the match.

"I thought Scunthorpe were good, very competitive, solid at the back and they defended very well.

"When you look at where they are in the third division table, I certainly think they are in a false position."

We don't think he is refering to the fact that we'd be bottom were the table currently decided purely on the first seven games of the season, rather than including dubious accounting practice at Boston United.

Iron manager Brian Laws was rather upbeat despite managing a side second bottom of the third division and now out of the League Cup.

"The players were really buzzing in the dressing room because they knew they had played well," he stated.

"I thought the football that we produced was awesome and we were so unlucky not to get anything out of it.

"Even though we have lost this performance has given us a lift, and if we play like this again on Saturday in the league then we will be all right."
