The game was in serious doubt due to a malfunction in the undersoil heating at Molineux, and referee Mark Haywood declared the pitch as unplayable after an inspection at 5.40pm.

There had been a previous inspection at 4pm, but the officials thought that the game could still go ahead.

Further attempts to resurrect the pitch had been in place, with the club bringing in industrial heaters to try and thaw out the frozen parts of the surface.
