McGibbon deal nearly done

New signing?
Transfer-listed Wigan Athletic defender Pat McGibbon is the name being linked with the club, and if it isn't McGibbon then it would certainly come as something of a shock.

Although McGibbon is out of contract at the end of the season it is believed that Wigan are asking for a fee.

A loan deal would enable Uniited to return at the end of the season if the Latics are still asking for a fee when the deal expires - even though a free transfer would save them wages.

"We're still making great progress and hopefully will announce something before friday," said Laws in the post match press conference tonight.

Laws hinted that the capture of McGibbon might not be his only action in the transfer market, though his priority would be to find someone who would gel into the side.

"I could fill loads of positions at the moment, we've got to make sure the right one comes in," he said.

"Iif you are going to bring players in youve got to get better than what you've got, Carruthers and Richard Kell have been very hard to replace," he added.
