Nobody wants to take Torps

The club confirmed a fortnight ago that they circulated the availabilty of record signing Steve Torpey to other third divisions club, although manager Brian Laws insisted that it did not amount to a transfer listing.

Whatever spin you put on it though, it is clear that the mangement at Glanford Park are looking at ways to reduce the club's wage bill in wake of the current financial climate - it seems that we're skint.

Of course, Iron-Bru.net has long reported that the club is heavily in debt, citing an independent review into the club's finances completed at the request of a former director well over a year ago which estimated we were around £2million in debt - with the share issue since then the financial situation should have eased but although we're not up against the wall yet if nothing is changed then it will be a matter of when rather than if.

The attempt to get rid of Steve Torpey, a signing the club said was £175K - then admitted we paid less as part of the fee was based on us staying in the second division, and now claim was in fact £200K - has proved unsuccesful as not one club have expressed an interest in the centre-forward.

Speaking in yesterday's Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph Laws said that the lack of interest came as no real surprise to him, saying that there is no money around to purchase players.

It comes as no real surprise to many fans too, as he has failed to live upto his high price tag since his arrival from Bristol City.
