Parton makes Stalybridge move

Parton
Parton had been offered a new deal to stay in North Lincolnshire, but with the first-team looking as far away as ever he has chosen to join Celtic in search of regular action.

The Doncaster-born forward came through the ranks at Glanford Park, turning professional in 2002.

But he has started just two games for the club, with 18 substitute appearances.

It was as a sub that he scored his only first-team goal for the Iron, with a superb volley in the FA Cup loss to Premiership Portsmouth in 2003-04.

But he spent much of his time out on loan to non-league clubs, first Harrogate Town and then Stalybridge.

And he will return to Bower Fold next season, as Celtic look to improve on last season's battle against relegation.

Despite finishing just six points above the relegation zone, online bookies bet365 list them as ninth favourites to take the title - at odds of 14/1.

Boss John Reed is confident that his side will enjoy a successful season next year.

He said: "We've strengthened all over the field and I'm excited at the prospect of taking this club to the right end of the League table in 2005-06.

"We'll be a different proposition next season, mark my words.

"I'm so excited at the prospect of Lee Ellington and Andy Parton up front for next season - a strike force like that gives me great optimism as both are easily capable of twenty goals a season.

"And with competition for places up front, everybody will have to be on top of their games."

With Parton being under 24, the Iron will be looking for compensation.
