PFA man Gordon - `I applaud this deal`

Speaking immediately after we broke the news this morning Taylor said that he feared further mergers would be the only way to secure the future of many lower division clubs.

"Obviously today is a very emotional day for everyone involved with Lincoln City and Scunthorpe United," said Taylor speaking to a group of reporters outside his offices this morning.

"This is a drastic measure, but these two club's merging their identities is far preferable to the two club's going out of business. I applaud this initiative, it will keep Lincolnshire football fans with a team to support for years to come.

"After all, what will the six thousand people who religously watch the two sides do every other Saturday? Go and watch Grimsby Town?

"I hope that other club's in such difficulties consider this step, Bury and stockport for instance are both in dire straits.

"Scunthorpe are due to play Rushden and Diamonds this Saturday coming, a lot can be learned from the success this new side has enjoyed."
