Praise for players after Grimsby win

After losing 3-0 to Coventry City and 5-1 to Derby County the players were in need of a boost.

"It had (the defeats) knocked the lads' confidence a little bit so I told them to get the ball forward a bit earlier, play in their half and I think it worked a treat to be honest," he said in the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph today.

"I was pleased with midfield, and pleased with Andy Parton's performance. He did himself no harm at all last night.

"To be fair the lads gave me everything I asked of them. I was particularly pleased with the work rate of Martin Carruthers. When you close down from the front it makes the job of midfield and defence that bit easier and I felt he set the tone against Grimsby."
