He said: "We have spoken about securing Steven on a new contract and it is something we would like to get sorted in the near future.
"What we have to do is make a decision on whether we bring back Steven from Scunthorpe or leave him there.
"The loan move has done wonders for his confidence and he has been scoring lots of goals.
"I will look at the situation nearer the time. If we don't bring anybody in during the January transfer window then it may be that we would like to recall Steven."
