Clean break
A late challenge from Hull City defender Mike Edwards in the 60th minute of Saturday's Humber derby saw Kell's season come to a premature end.

It is the second broken leg at the club in the space of a fortnight, the fourth in two seasons and fifth in three.

Assistant manager Russ Wilcox was one of the first to comment on the issue saying, "It's a shame that people will be talking about the injury first.

"The unfortunate thing is that Richard is probably going to be missing for the rest of the season.

"I thought it was a poor challenge on him.

"Whether he has mis-timed the challenge of not i do not know, it is difficult to tell when you are 30 yards away but you could see from the reaction of our players that it was a bad challenge."

Manager Brian Laws was too shellshocked to speak immediately after the game, and later admitted to the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph that the challenge had really got to him.

"Richard is a smashing lad and for anyone to break a leg is awful, " he declared.

"It really took the edge of Saturday for us, from what was a wonderful result for us.

"The break appears to be a clean one just above the right ankle for Richard, so at least that's something on the positive side.

"But we will miss him the rest of the season, ir is unbelievable the luck we aer having with these sort of injuries at the moment.

"It's frightening, i have never experienced anything like it before and I don't know of any club that has."
