Referee blasted by both managers

Laws said: "I am speechless. First of all, the assistant has waved because the ball has gone out of play. He's flagging vigorously and I mean vigorously to alert the referee.

"I have stopped, my players have stopped but the referee has said 'oooh, let's play on.' Obviously it's human nature for everyone to stop.

"The referee has got every decision wrong. The only one he's got right was to send me off for leaving my technical area. I'll hold my hands up to that, because I was 50 yards away.

"It was an awful performance from the officials and it's cost us a win. I'll have to be careful what I say, because they'll be in there now coming up with some garbage to disguise their performance today."

John Askey was also confused by the officials: "I can understand why Brian Laws was upset, but I was also upset with their first goal.

"The referee has allowed Peter Beagrie to retake his free kick because Tommy Widdrington has come out of the wall, but he didn't leave the wall and that's cost us their opener."
