Reid sits out Burnley practice game

Alan Knill, the Scunthorpe manager, said the club captain was left out of the game against Burnley reserves due to a calf problem.

He missed last week's loss to York due to a groin strain, and has yet to feature for the first-team at all this season after breaking four bones in a hand during the pre-season training camp in the Republic of Ireland.

"It is one thing after another but we're hopeful this will be the end of it. We more or less arranged this game for him to play in, so we're disappointed he's not going to take part, but we can't do anything about it if he's injured," Knill told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

Knill said Reid was expected to train on Thursday, in the hope he can come straight into the starting line-up to partner Niall Canavan at Swindon in place of the suspended David Mirfin.

Midfielder Michael Collins was expected to play against the Clarets as he builds up fitness following tendonitis, with Connor Jennings, Mark Hughes, Jordan Keegan and Callum Kennedy also featuring after finding themselves on the fringes of the first-team.

Damien Mozika, who has also missed the whole season so far, has returned to training following his ankle problem.

Knill said he hopes to arrange another behind-closed-doors game next week in order to give the French midfielder a runout.
