Rovers saw off the Iron through goals by £125,000 summer signing Paul Heffernan, Adam Hughes and Neil Roberts.

A Scunthorpe side including Cliff Byrne, Adam Capp, Tommy Johnson, Wayne Corden, Andy Parton and Lee Ridley (making his comeback from a hernia problem that has kept him out so far this season) had their chances, with Parton and Corden going close in particular.

Corden had a rasping 30-yard drive saved, whilst Parton came close on a couple of occasions.

With the score at 2-0, Parton also missed a penalty after he was brought down in the Doncaster box.

A positive though was the return to action of Ridley, who played 75 minutes of the game.

It was a disappointing result which leaves the reserves without a win, three games into the new season, and Iron boss Brian Laws will be hoping the first team can avenge this defeat on Saturday.

Teams:
Doncaster: Budtz, Marples (Ireland 65), Nelthorpe, S Roberts, Fenton, Hughes, Coppinger, Griffiths, N Roberts (c), Heffernan, Offiong (Saunders 80).

Scunthorpe: Capp, Byrne, Ridley (Winn 75), Mazzola, Smith, Twibey, McGhie (Fox 53), Mitchell, Johnson, Parton, Corden.
