Dave Mirfin however, has been given the green light to play against his former club after training all week despite worries that he had broken his nose at Wembley.

United are likely to welcome Sam Togwell back into the midfield in place of Matt Sparrow and there could also be a return to the line up for Martyn Woolford who would take over from the misfiring Kevan Hurst on the left wing.

Elsewhere, Adkins may give Cliff Byrne a rest after the captain struggled through the game at Wembley with Andy Wright on standby.

Huddersfield are likely to start both Andy Butler and Jim Goodwin, who left United in the summer. Goodwin is likely to be given a torrid time by the Scunthorpe fans after taunting fans after scoring Huddersfield's first goal at the Galpharm earlier in the season.

The Terriers have sold 700 ticket for the match, which is pay on the gate for away fans. Meanwhile Scunthorpe fans have up until kick off to purchase tickets for seating areas, whilst the Arcelor Mittal terrace is pay on the gate.

Kick off is at 7.45om and the game is a Category A fixture.
