Byrne, who is fit again following injury, looks set to replace Stanton for Saturday's top of the table clash.
Iron boss Brian Laws told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "Cliff Byrne has been waiting to get back in after his injury. Nathan got his chance through Cliff and Cliff's going to get his chance through Nathan."
He joins an Iron injury list that includes Andy Butler, Steve Torpey, Tom Evans, Jim Goodwin and Lee Ridley.
