Stanton out for season

Stanton went into hospital last week for surgery on knee cartilage, after landing heavily during the New Year's Day loss to Darlington.

But during the operation it was discovered that he had cracked a bone, keeping him out until the summer - when his current contract expires.

Iron boss Brian Laws told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "There was no indication that the injury woulod be a major one when he went into hospital, we thought he would be back in about six weeks.

"But a hairline crack was found, and that means he won't play for us again this season."

Cliff Byrne has been deputising admirably for Stanton this season, but Laws has hinted that a right-back might now top his shopping list instead of an additional striker.

Wayne Graves, who has played at right-back in Stanton's absence before, returns to action for the reserves this week and could be asked to do so again once again.
