That was the biggest 1-1 battering I've ever seen

A penalty from Kevin Sharp just before the break saw United earn a point, but with seven times more shots on target than the home side Laws was amazed that three points weren't safely in the bag.

He said: "That was the biggest 1-1 battering I've ever seen. We hit the post twice, had two goals disallowed and their goalkeeper pulled off some amazing saves.

"I felt sorry for Steve McLean, who on another day could easily have had a double hat-trick.

"We had something like 13 shots at goal and with the all-round effort I couldn't ask any more of the players.

"I was a little disappointed at the way we conceded a goal but we did more than enough to have won quite comfortably."

Boston United manager Neil Thompson admitted his side were lucky to take a point out of the match.

He said: "Basically we played very poorly and didn't really deserve anything from the match. But we got a point and that's probably the only positive we can take from the day.

"We must acknowledge that Scunthorpe played very well and put us under a lot of pressure. We seemed a yard short in all areas of the park."
