United knocked the Merseyside outfit out of the Carling Cup with a 2-1 win in North Lincolnshire, and followed that up with a 2-0 League success at Prenton Park.

Under-fire Rovers boss will be without Steve Davies, who has a knee injury, and the suspended Mark Rankine. Captain Jason McAteer is still ruled out with a knee problem.

But Rovers are boosted by the signing of 20-year-old defender Simon Francis on loan from Sheffield United, who has gone straight into the squad for the game.

Little said: "The first game was a very close game at their place but they won comfortably here (at Prenton Park).

"They played very well on the night and we've now gone two down against them so it’s a tough game for us, we know that.

"We know the players a lot better now, credit to them, they’ve been very consistent and that’s one thing we could take off them."
