Transfer window shuts for League

The Premier League have been forced to follow the FIFA-approved windows since 2001, with players unable to move between sides for the majorityof the year.

All transfer activities must be made in the summer, with January the only month in the season exempt from the ban.

The Football League had threatened court action against FIFA in order to be exempt from the rule, but have now backed down from a lengthy legal battle.

Football League director of operations Andy Williamson said: "This is the third season where we've had an exemption.

"That will not apply any more - there's not going to be any further extended period of flexibility."
