Two signings bolster squad

The two players have joined the club for one month, and go straight into the squad to face York tomorrow if the Bootham Crescent pitch passes an early pitch inspection.

37-year-old Groves has been linked with a move to Glanford Park over the past fortnight, after being sacked as player-manager of the Cods two weeks ago - though he was kept on the books as a player.

Speaking to shareholders on Monday night Laws admitted that he was interested in Groves, and made his move following the following day's defeat at Torquay - where he pointed the finger of blame firmly at the midfield (with a little bit at 'keeper Tommy Evans).

Groves said: "I have come to Scunthorpe United to play football and help out manager Brian Laws, and that is all I want to say at the current time."

Laws descrbed him as a good acquisition who will calm the midfield.

He said: "He has an old head on his shoulders. He is experienced, a very good organiser and talker and a very good footballer as well.

"We are very pleased to get Paul, he is a Scunthorpe player for one month and then we'll see how things go."

26-year-old Holloway joins from First Division outcasts Wimbledon MK, and has made 14 appearances this season.

His previous clubs include Sunderland, Carlisle and Bolton.
