Weather threatens Carlisle game

Last updated : 18 December 2002 By Luke Thornhill
Residents of Carlisle woke this morning to see a think layer of white frost covering the ground, and temperatures throughout the day didn't allow it to thaw out.

With temperatures tonight already below freezing Carlise United have taken the unusual step of asking local farmers for spare bales of straw or hay in order to protect the pitch and hopefully play the match.

A pitch inspection is likely around midday, and Iron-Bru.net will be bringing you full details of the weather situation in Carlisle thorughout the day - after all, we're stuck up here whether the game goes ahead or not.

Carlisle United chairman John Courtenay tonight confirmed that if tomorrow's game does not go ahead then compensation will not be owed to Hartlepool United.
