Wednesday's Sharp bid rejected, Preston enquire

Preston have made an enquiry for the Iron's top scorer, who hit 32 goals last season, according to BBC Radio Humberside.

Sheffield Wednesday, managed by former Iron boss Brian Laws, tabled a bid earlier in the week which could reach £1.5million, but this is set to be rejected on Wednesday.

United boss Nigel Adkins met with the 21-year-old striker on Tuesday, and admitted he would be powerless to stop the player leaving if he wanted.

But with a host of potential suitors, the lifelong Sheffield United fan is unlikely to be keen on a move to their fierce rivals Wednesday - if, indeed, he opts to leave the Iron at all.

Scunthorpe rejected two bids of more than £2m in the January transfer window for the forward, and his value will have risen still further following United's League One title win.
