Sears, 21, was recalled from his loan at Glanford Park by the Israeli, who put him straight into the starting line-up for the Premier League Game at Fulham on Boxing Day.

That match was won 3-1 to lift West Ham off the foot of the Premier League table, with Sears on the pitch for the full 90 minutes in his first top flight start since 2009.

Although his long wait for a second senior goal went on, he did go close with a shot on the turn in the second-half.

Sears was one of several youngster elevated to first-team duties, with Grant convinced these are the players destined to keep the London side in the top flight.

"We want to continue the direction of the club with young players," he said.

"We played with three players under 21 and even one came on as a sub for the last three minutes. We are very pleased that we won but we also continued with our vision."
