Wharton's future to be discussed

A couple of reports yesterday stated that Wharton had quit as chairman of the Iron minutes after the side failed to reach the playoffs on Saturday.

However, as we reported first on Saturday evening, Wharton's future will be discussed at a board meeting this evening.

It is still widely believed though that Wharton will carry out his desired intention to step down as chairman - though there is a growing number of fans who would welcome a statement to the contrary, although this would undoubtedly prove controversial.

It has been suggested in some quarters that the entire board could step down, making way for a consortium of local businessmen to launch a fresh takeover attempt.

Their last attempts proved ultimately unsuccesful, but fans seem divided virtually straight down the middle as to which choice they would prefer.
