Wilcox not tempted to return

United beat Darlington Reserves 1-0 at Glanford Park this afternoon, but could only name three substitutes after seeing many of his regulars in first team action against Burnley in the Carling Cup last night.

Wilcox was tempted to named himself in the starting XI, but decided against it as his role is now on the sidelines.

He did however discuss it at a board meeting last night, and revealed that Chairman Steve Wharton and Director Chris Holland had cheekily offered to play.

Wilcox joked: "The chairman was well up for it and I told him to bring his boot and pads, Chris Holland was unsure - he wanted to know where he would be playing.

"I thought about it (playing), but I think it is a step backwards for myself. I have had my career now and it is time for the younger players to come through.

"It did cross my mind, what with having such a young squad. But I'm concentrating on my coaching and i'll let the kids do it."
