The player was only on a two month contract at the Racecourse Ground, but the Chairman of the North Wales club told the player that he would extend his contract at least until he was fully fit.

"I am devastated for the lad," explained Wrexham manager Denis Smith after yesterday's battling stalemate.

Kell: Road to recovery
"The only bit of good news is that the chairman came into the dressing room and said Waynne would have a contract for the season.

"Hopefully that will make him rest a little more easily."

The incident happened seven minutes into the opening game of the season, in a clash with central defender James Cotterill.

United still have one player out with a broken leg of our own, and in yesterday's matchday programme physio Nigel Adkins re-iterated that Richie Kell is unllikely to return until the New Year.

Kell, who broke his leg last December in the Humber derby with Hull City, has stepped up his training to include close control exercises.
