Calvo headed home 14 minutes into the game with Wrexham at Glanford Park, connecting with Peter Beagrie's cross after being afforded the freedom of the pitch by the travelling defence.

"It was the first goal of mine since the birth of my son Aidan," he told the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph.

"So I dedicate it to him and my wife, I should have done a Brazilian Bebeto celebration!"

It was a double success for the Basque midfielder, as he was also handed the inaugral Iron-Bru.net / Iron Filings player of the season award by Iron-Bru.net editor and Iron Filings longest serving player Luke Thornhill after the match.

Also speaking to the SET, Iron manager Brian Laws stated that he was pleased with our first half performance and that he didn't expect the first competitive game of the season to see everything "click into place".

He described Nathan Stanton as outstanding, while also praising Beags and Martin Carruthers' performances.
