Barlow took temporary charge of the former European champions - working alongside reserve team coach Ian McParland - on Friday when Gary Megson quit the club.
He is expected to continue as caretaker manager until the summer, and would consider taking the post on a permanent basis if asked.
After guiding the side to a rare away day success at Port Vale on Saturday, he couldn't have made a better impression with chairman Nigel Doughty.
Barlow said: "I am pleased to do the job as long as the club want me to do it.
"The result is a great relief for everybody, and is a weight off the back of the players.
"Luck was with us and we were fortunate at times, but I am delighted with the result and the clean sheet."
