The 28-year-old former Chesterfield and Stockport striker spent a successful loan spell at Boundary Park last season and secured a 12-month loan deal from current employers Sheffield United on Thursday.

Beckett, who scored the goal which kept the Latics in League One on the final day of last term, is backing boss Ronnie Moore to lead them to glory come next summer.

"With the signings the manager has made and with the lads who are already here, I think this could be a good season," he told the club's official website.

"I can only see us being at the top of the table. Nottingham Forest and Doncaster will be strong but we don't fear anyone. With the players we have
got here we will do okay.

"I'm just happy to have everything sorted out. Oldham is where I wanted to come and I can't wait to train with the lads."
