Blackpool deny heavy handedness

The struggling National League Two club are in danger of folding following the resignation of majority shareholder Dave Rowland and will play what is almost certainly their final match at Bloomfield Road against Dewsbury on Sunday.

Rowland accused the Seasiders of heavy handedness, claiming they threatened to call off Panthers games unless overdue rent was paid.

But Bloomfield Road director Peter Whitehead said: "We are somewhat surprised by Mr David Rowland's public statement in connection with the normal payment arrangements for the use of the stadium.

"From the outset, the football club has supported Blackpool Panthers' directors and has provided the facilities at a very low level in order to assist with the original survival of Chorley Lynx and its development into Blackpool Panthers.

"It has provided such support alongside Blackpool Council's, and before Mr Rowland's comments had agreed a further reduction in costs by way of sponsorship for their last home match against Dewsbury - acceding to a request made by Blackpool Panthers board."
