He said: "I have let everyone down, the manager, the chairman, my team-mates and more importantly the supporters.
"I know that as a professional footballer people, especially youngsters, look up to me and my actions are not those of someone in such a privileged position.
"I cannot apologise enough for the embarrassment this has caused the club and the supporters."
