The Bees were beaten by Sheffield Wednesday in the play-off semi-finals and have strengthened over the summer, but manager Allen is confident that his supporters will view the season ahead with some realism.

He said: "Higher expectation comes from everyone outside the club. Our supporters know how close we were to relegation 16 months ago.

"They are thrilled with how quickly we have come forward, and now people on the outside expect us to do well.

"But that doesn't bother me at all. What everyone in the club wants is to get the 51 points (needed to avoid relegation) as quickly as possible."
