The Robins will spend a week in the former Soviet state, and take part in three friendly games.

City manager Gary Johnson is a former boss of the Latvian national side, and has used his contacts to secure top training facilities for his side.

Johnson told the club's official website: "We've got three matches - including two which will be played in the national stadium in Riga.

"The Latvian season is already under way and they will be in the middle of it by the time we go out there - so Skonto will be at peak fitness.

"Skonto have been kind enough to let us use their training centre, the Mezapark. The facilities are very good and it will give us great preparation for the season.

"The other bonus is the quality of the pitches out there - the surface of the national stadium is brilliant and will allow us to play our football."
