Carlisle name McDonald as boss

He replaces Paul Simpson, who quit the Cumbrians to take over at Championship side Preston North End.

McDonald was a trainee at Brunton Park, but is better known for playing spells at Newcastle, Everton and Oldham.

It is his first managerial appointment.
