After selling Darren Bent and Kevin Lisbie in the summer, the Addicks boss brought Chris Iwelumo, Luke Varney, Svetoslav Todorov and Izale McLeod to The Valley and they have all started the season brightly.

An upbeat Pardew said: "We have four mainline strikers now, and they're all very competitive.

"There's not much to choose between them so they have to play at an extra special level if they're going to stay in the team.

"Toddy came off the bench and made a bit of an impact at Crystal Palace and Chris (Iwelumo) did very well that day.

"Varney got a hat-trick and Izale looked sharp, so those four have real competition to get hold of the two - and sometimes one - shirts."
