Chesterfield plan £3.5m fundraising

The Spireites need to find £10m to build a 10,000-capacity stadium to replace their ageing Saltergate home.

A grant of £1.6m from the Football Foundation as well as cash from the sale of their current ground will also contribute towards construction costs.

Chairman Barry Hubbard hopes fans and local businesses will want to buy into the Spireites.

"This may sound an excessive amount to try and raise but it would only equate to 350 people purchasing 10,000 preference shares each," he said.

"We have held initial discussions with parties who had expressed an interest in investing in the club and we plan to hold further meetings."
