FA will investigate Wednesday trouble

The Football Association will investigate crowd trouble which marred Sheffield Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday, a result which confirmed the Owls' relegation to League One.
Home fans raced onto the pitch at the final whistle, with Palace defender Clint Hill rushed to the tunnel by stewards amid a flurry of punches aimed in his direction after he had become separated from his teammates.
"A good few landed and I am a big lad and can take them. It is disappointing to end like that – I was not enticing anybody, I just went and celebrated with the fans because that's where I thought the players had gone," he said.
"There were none over there, though, and the stewards dragged me off but once one has a swing at you, everybody gets a bit brave and starts having swings at you. At one point there was maybe seven or eight on me. Somebody said that they saw a 50-year-old woman getting hurt - when they start doing that, there is no need for it. It's wrong."
"I am not going to make a thing of it but if the club ban them and they get what they deserve, I am happy. You cannot go around knocking 50-odd-year-old women off the ground. If they get the punishment they deserve, fair enough."
Eight Wednesday fans were arrested after the game, for public order offences and assault. Police will review footage and say they expect to make further arrests.

Gordon Strachan, the Middlesbrough manager, has confirmed striker Jeremie Aliadiere has turned down the offer of a new contract and will leave the club as a free agent this summer.

Barnsley have released six out-of-contract players, with Jon Macken, Darren Moore, Anderson de Silva, Rob Kozluk, Michael Coulson and SImon Heslop leaving the club.

Daniel Bogdanovic will also leave Oakwell, having turned down a one-year deal.

The Tykes expect to find out this week whether Hugo Colace, the club's player of the year, has accepted a new contract.
