Four arrests in football violence raids

The men were arrested in dawn raids across the city as part of Operation Mustard, and follows a joint operation between Cumbria and North Yorkshire's police forces.

Around 25 officers were involved in the raids, which targeted people suspected of violent disorder at the league game between York City and Carlisle United on November 30.

The forur men were due to be interviewed during the day, and items including clothing, mobile phones, football documentation and pepper spray was seized from their homes.

Inspector David Willetts of Cumbria Police told the Cumberland News: "This was a nasty incident and we will actively target people who go to games to cause violencem wherever that may be."

In a seperate incident earlier this week well-known football hooligan Paul Dodd has appeared in Carlisle magistrates court charged with assault and failure to answer bail.

He admitted assault, and he will be sentenced on April 14.
