A number of players have left the Gills this summer, with no new arrivals, but Cooper wants to strengthen ahead of the new campaign.

Dundee United boss Gordon Chisholm has given the English shotstopper the weekend to decide his future.

“I have spoken to Tony and he is now going away to think about it over the weekend,” said Chisholm.

“He is out of contract so is free to talk to other clubs, but we feel the deal we have put in front of him is very fair.

“We want him to stay and have made that clear all along, so hopefully he will come back to us on Monday with good news.”

The Iron face the Gills early on at Glanford Park next season, on August 13.
