Attwell, who awarded the "phantom goal" for Reading at Watford, disallowed two Derby goals against Nottingham Forest and came under fire from Steve Bruce in early March has been demoted to League One football after a string of poor decisions in the Premier League.

He infuriated Hereford United at the weekend when Simon Cox lashed in Swindon's second goal from an offside position along with two other Robins players.

Hereford's first team coach John Trewick insisted he was "speechless" whilst captain Steve Guinan said he felt like he had been "kicked in the guts"

"He just said that Cox was not interfering with play," Guinan told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"Not a cat in hell's chance, he was offside, he's flicked the ball, it deviated by at least two yards."
