Iwelumo eyes Scotland call

Iwelumo headed to The Valley on a Bosman transfer from Colchester, having finished top scorer in the Championship last season as the Us flirted with the play-offs.

And he expects to force himself into the plans of Scotland boss Alex McLeish.

"It is every footballer's dream to honour his country and I was very close last year," he said.

"There was a B international against Poland last season and they were playing at Kilmarnock, which was very close to where I grew up, and I was very surprised not to make it into the squad.

"But I use disappointments in a positive way to get the best out of myself and if I am doing a good job at Charlton this season I am sure Scotland will come knocking."
