The Scottish forward was out-of-contract at the Owls this summer, and opted to move to Ninian Park after talks over a new deal stalled.

MacLean spent the 2002-03 season on loan at Scunthorpe from Scottish giants Rangers, and top scored as United battled against relegation from League Two.

He swopped Ibrox for Hillsborough in 2004, and was voted player of the year as he hit 20 goals.

A broken leg in 2005 wrecked the following season, but he bounced back with 13 goals last season for the Owls.

The Bluebirds have also signed midfielder Gavin Rae, who was released by Rangers this summer.

Dundee has spent three seasons at the Gers after joining from Dundee in a £250,000 move in January 2004.
