Monkey business gets United into the news

Those users who follow politics in the country will no doubt be aware of the three BNP members elected to Burnley Borough Council, `Robocop` being elected as majoy of middlesbrough and a football mascot becoming the new Mayor of Hartlepool.

In Hartlepool it is a bizarre case of Joe Public totally ignoring policies and simply voting for the guy who makes a prat of himself every other Sunday dressed up as a monkey. Sorry, Stuart Drummond.

Inevitably the results have had a lot of national media interest, and Scunthorpe United and Blackpool have had fleeting mentions.

It was Stuart, in his alter ego as H'Angus the monkey, who was banned from Glanford Park after simulating sex with a female steward.

He was also thrown out of Bloomfield Road, after taking an inflatable doll onto the pitch.

However Drummond says he is putting his monkeying around days behind him, and is serious about being mayor of the north east town.

"It's long in the past, it's all forgotten," said Stuart today, "I'm very serious, and ready for the job."

And why should we doubt him, especially when his first policy is free bananas for schoolkids.
