Orient's Olympic dream

Written by Daniel Elwes
Tuesday, 13th February 2007
Leyton Orient are hoping to move to the 25,000-seater stadium being built in London for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Orient are currently redeveloping their Brisbane Road ground, but it won't boast the facilities or capacity of the stadium being built for the Olympics.

"We have always been in the shadow of the big clubs, and it may well be that a move to the Olympic Stadium could be the kick-start this club needs to become a major club," declared Os chairman Barry Hearn.

"With a 25,000 capacity, we would certainly have room to grow, and moving to the Olympic Stadium would be a sign for a lot of people to start supporting Leyton Orient."

But a move is nothing more than a pipedream at the moment, with Hearn insisting his side are in no need to move.

"Brisbane Road has been our home for 70 years, and it is not a home we will move out of unless we are presented with an opportunity that is too good to turn down," he declared.

"Our primary agenda is to stay in League One, and our secondary agenda is to finish our ground as a four-sided development so we have Brisbane Road operational as a proper, functional football stadium."
