Palace lost 1-0 at Ashton Gate on Saturday, but were angered by the referee Rob Shoebridge's decision to rule out a goal that would have put them ahead in the first-halg.

Freddie Sears's shot crossed the line but bounced back out, prompting Shoebridge - after taking the advice of his assistant - to rule that no goal had been scored.

The Eagles even went so far as to ask for the game to be replayed, something the Football League have dismissed.

Keith Hackett, the general manager of the professional game match officials board, had apologised on Sunday.

Shoebridge has been taken out of the spotlight and will not take charge of the game between Plymouth Argyle and Cardiff City on Tusday night he had been scheduled to officiate.

Rangers striker Andrius Velicka has signed for Bristol City on a season-long loan deal.

The Lithuania international arrives at Ashton Gate in time for their league fixture against Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night, with manager Gary Johnson set to throw him straight into action.

Gareth Southgate, the Middlesbrough manager, said his club have received no bids for the Turkey international forward Tuncay Sanli.

Tuncay, who scored in the 3-0 win over Swansea City on Saturday after coming off the bench, is expected to be part of the Boro side facing Scunthorpe at Glanford Park on Tuesday night.

West Bromwich Albion have signed Chelsea youngster Shaun Cummings on loan to provide cover for injured right-back Gianni Zuiverloon.

The goalkeeper Roy Carroll is expected to sign for the Danish club Odense after being released by Derby County.

Blackpool have signed the young midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas on loan from the Premier League side Arsenal.

Cardiff City's Ross McCormack faces two months out of action with a hamstring injury.
