Palace name Warnock as manager

It is Warnock's first job after stepping down as Sheffield United boss following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

Palace chairman Simon Jordan sacked Taylor on Monday, after a poor start to the season left the Eagles 19th in the Championship table.

Former Notts County, Plymouth Argyle and Bury boss Warnock is a friend of Jordan and has been charged with improving the fortunes of a club that claimed just points from their opening ten league games.

Sheffield-born Warnock claimed he had one last big job in him when he left Bramall Lane in May and he reiterated his desire to finish his 21-year managerial career at his next club after being unveiled at Selhurst Park.

"This will be my last job," admitted Warnock, who has won promotion six times in his career.

"The chairman Simon Jordan and I are ambitious people who want to achieve."

Jordan himself added: "I know I have the right man. It is the dream ticket. We both say what we mean and we mean what we say.

"I always used to benchmark our progress at Palace by the results we had against Neil Warnock's Sheffield United."

Warnock will be joined at Selhurst Park by coaches Mick Jones and Keith Curle as part of a new-look backroom staff.
