Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has ended speculation about his future by signing a new four-year contract with the Championship new-boys.

Ferguson was linked with the managerial jobs at West Brom and Reading earlier in the summer but is happy to commit his long-term future to The Posh.

He told the club's official website: "I'm absolutely delighted. I spoke with the chairman and we talked about a lot of things.

"We knew we'd discuss the contract and not only that. It was important that my staff were rewarded for their efforts. We're all delighted, they're exciting times at this football club.

"I've always said I'm happy here. I've said before that I believe there's unfinished business here and the aim now is to try and get into the Premier League."

The Trinidad and Tobago international striker Jason Scotland looks likely to join Wigan Athletic after the Latics agreed a transfer fee for the 30-year-old with Swansea City.

Scotland has been given permission to speak with Wigan and will discuss personal terms with the Premier League side.

He scored 24 goals in the Championship last season and now seems certain to be reunited with former Swans boss Roberto Martinez, who took over at the JJB Stadium this summer.
