Sam made just two substitute appearances for Vale before breaking his leg in the Carling Cup game against Rotherham.

But the 27-year-old summer signing from Wrexham is confident he will be able to play a part in the second half of the season.

He told the Stoke Sentinel: "Everything is going well so far with the injury. The cast is off now which is good news as it has been frustrating for me not to be in the side.

"The lads have been playing well, though, over the past few weeks and I am pleased about that and I hope it continues.

"Maybe I will be back in contention for the New Year games, but I have to get back in to training first."
