Queens Park Rangers have appointed Jim Magilton as their new manager on a two-year contract.

The former Northern Ireland international, 40, was sacked by Ipswich Town towards the end of last season, having spent just under two years in charge at Portman Road.

The Rs were on the lookout for a new boss after axing both Iain Dowie and Paulo Sousa last season.

"I'm really looking forward to the challenge of managing this football club," said Magilton

"The board are highly ambitious, but they're very realistic at the same time. I've huge ambitions to achieve as a manager though and our aim is to keep progressing, year after year.

"There's a very strong group of players at the club and, with one or two additions over the summer, we can expect to be in a position to drastically improve upon the 11th-placed finish secured last season."

Full-back Tyrone Mears has returned to Derby County at the end of his season-long loan with Marseille.

The 26-year-old made only a handful of appearances for the French club and failed to secure a permanent deal at the Stade Velodrome.

The Bristol City chief executive Colin Sexstone has rejected claims that his club have received any offers for midfielder Marvin Elliott.

Ken Bates, t Leeds United chairman, has said the Yorkshire club have not received any offers for the forward Jermaine Beckford.

The 25-year-old has rejected the offer of a new contract at Elland Road, but still has another year left on his current deal. He has been linked with a host of Championship clubs, notably Sheffield United.
