Pearce is new boss Nigel Pearson's first signing since being appointed manager of the Saints on Monday.
Pearson told Southampton's offical website: "I am delighted to have brought Ian in. He is an experienced head, calm, confident and a quality player."
Pearce has made 57 appearances for Fulham since joining the club from West Ham in 2004 but has found the net just once.
